Meso, the restaurant at Marbela Beach Resort in Morjim, fits that description in its own way. The Zomato figure sits close to the ₹2,220 food total above, so plan on that before drinks. Reviews praise the beachfront setting and the wood-fired pizzas. Some criticise slow service and prices. Which room should you book for a special dinner?

Book the AC Deck Lounge for comfort and the bamboo pavilion for atmosphere. The AC Deck Lounge is Meso's main dining area, fully air-conditioned, finished in rustic wood and jute, with floor-to-ceiling glass and uninterrupted sea views. It is the closest thing to a formal dining room on the property, and it is the safe bet from March to September, when evenings are hot or wet. The bamboo pavilion is the open-air alternative. From November to February, an early table there catches the sunset, and the breeze makes a long dinner easy. According to Marbela's restaurant page, a resident mixologist builds signature cocktails around seasonal fruit and premium spirits, and the Island Bar, a square main bar, pours international and local drinks with a bit of flair bartending. Meso will not suit everyone looking for fine dining in North Goa, and it is better to know before the drive.

• You want Goan food. Meso is Mediterranean and Middle Eastern, not Goan. Our list of Goan dishes to try tells you what to order elsewhere.
• You want a multi-course tasting menu. Meso's listed menu is plates and platters, so ask before booking if a set menu matters.
• You want to walk on to a club afterwards. Morjim is quiet at night. The late-night scene is in Anjuna and Vagator, 25–45 minutes away across the Siolim bridge.

Getting there and booking

Meso is on Ashvem Road in Morjim, about 12–15 km from Vagator and 15–17 km from Anjuna. Plan on a taxi if anyone is drinking, and book the ride home before dinner in peak season. The road back to Anjuna or Vagator runs over the Siolim bridge, and late on a December night app cabs can take a while to accept a ride.
