What time is sunset in North Goa each month?

Sunset in North Goa moves by more than an hour across the year, from about 6:01 PM between mid-November and early December to 7:09 PM from late June to mid-July. The times below are timeanddate's 2026 figures for Panaji, the nearest city it lists; Morjim differs by about a minute. The last column is our verdict on whether a sunset table is worth planning around that time of year.

April and May fall between the late-March and early-June times, and from August to October sunset slides back from about 7:05 PM towards 6:05 PM. September skies improve late in the month; October is a coin toss early on and often lovely by the end. Check the exact time on the day.

Why does the sun set in a different place in December and June?

The sun does not set due west all year. On the North Goa coast it goes down well to the south of west in December and swings round to the north of west by June, a long way along the horizon. For sunset dining in North Goa that matters more than people expect. A table that lines up perfectly with the sun in a January photo can leave the sun off to one side in May. Morjim Beach suits both seasons because it faces open Arabian Sea with nothing on the horizon, while the Chapora Fort headland sits to the south, across the river mouth, out of the sun's path. When you book, ask for a table with a wide, unobstructed view of the water rather than a particular "sunset corner", and arrive early enough to move if the angle is wrong.

A worked evening: Anjuna to Morjim in December

Here is how the timing plays out for a couple staying in Anjuna who want a sunset dinner at Meso on a mid-December evening. Sunset is at about 6:06 PM, so the aim is to be seated by 5:20 PM. Anjuna to Morjim is about 15–17 km, and the road crosses the Chapora river on the Siolim bridge, which usually takes 35–45 minutes and longer in Christmas week traffic. Leave by 4:30 PM. Order drinks when you sit down, because the best light for photos is the half hour before sunset, not the moment itself. After the sun drops, the sky often turns its deepest pink and orange for another 15–20 minutes. Order mains then. Meso serves until 11 PM, so nobody needs to rush dessert. Book your taxi back before you arrive: app cabs are slower to find after dark in the busy season.

Which sea-view seat at Meso suits the month?

Meso has three places to watch the sun go down, and the right one depends mostly on heat and rain. The open bamboo pavilion is the default from November to February, when evenings are dry and the breeze comes straight off the sea. The AC Deck Lounge, fully air-conditioned with floor-to-ceiling glass, makes more sense from April to September, when evenings are sticky or wet. What to order while the light changes

Keep the first order light so you are looking at the sky, not your plate. A cocktail made with seasonal fruit or a fresh juice from the Meso Bar is enough. The charcoal-grilled Moroccan Fish Kebab (₹720) is an easy plate to share at this stage.

Book through Meso's online table booking or call +91 91588 81184, give the time you want to be seated, and ask for a sea-facing table. From November to February, book at least a day or two ahead. Morjim is an Olive Ridley turtle nesting beach, mainly from late December to March; The Goan reported that 152 turtles laid more than 15,500 eggs there in the 2024–25 season.
