Which bar at Marbela suits which moment?

Pick the bar by time of day. The beach club is for an afternoon by the pool, the Meso Bar runs from coffee to cocktails, and the Island Bar is the evening centrepiece.

What is the Island Bar like?

The Island Bar is Marbela's square main bar, with the bartenders working in the middle and guests on all four sides. It pours international spirits and local drinks, and according to Marbela's restaurant page the head barman and his assistants work in the flair style: bottles spun, tins flipped, a little theatre with each round. That makes the Island Bar a sociable place to start an evening before dinner at Meso, or to finish one after it. The square shape matters more than it sounds. A group can sit around a corner and talk face to face, and solo travellers end up chatting to the bartender instead of staring at a back bar. The same page says a resident mixologist builds signature cocktails from seasonal fruits and premium spirits, but no cocktail names or prices are published online. So the list is something you learn at the bar. Ask what fruit came in that week and let the bartender suggest a drink.

How Marbela's bars looked in 2012

The bar story at Marbela is older than the current menu. A 2012 Navhind Times feature on the resort, founded by Jaydeep and Sheetal Rajebhosale, described Brazilian flair bartenders, a Champagne Terrace Lounge and a "Floating Bar" set inside a canoe beached on the sand. Club M, an in-house nightclub, opened the same year. None of these appears on the resort's pages today, so read them as history, not as something to ask for at the bar. Two things have carried through. One is the flair style at the Island Bar. The other is the habit of building drinks around fruit rather than a fixed printed list. The big season nights have a history as well: the White Party has been Marbela's season party since 2010, and the December 2022 edition asked for a strictly white dress code. How seasonal fruit changes a Goa cocktail list

A cocktail list built on seasonal fruit follows Goa's harvest. From March to May, mangoes and cashew apples arrive, and cashew season is when urrak, the lighter first distillation of cashew feni, is drunk fresh. Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism's site, lists feni, made from cashew or palm, among Goa's signatures. Kokum, the sour purple fruit behind sol kadi, turns up in summer too. From November to February, lighter citrus drinks suit an evening after a day in the sun. With no published list, order by mood: something sour, something long and cold, or something spirit-forward. Can you drink on the beach in Goa?

No. Drinking on Goa's beaches is banned under a 2019 amendment, and Goa's Tourism Director, quoted by PTI, put the fines at ₹2,000 for an individual and ₹10,000 for a group. Licensed shacks, bars and restaurants may still serve. That is the practical case for a beachfront bar: the sea view and the breeze, with the drink legally on a table. Leave bottles off the sand. Swimming after drinks is worse. Drishti, the state's lifeguard agency, marks the swim zone with red-and-yellow flags, and red flags go up at patrolled beaches through the June–September monsoon.

What do reviews say about the drinks and the bill?

Reviews of Marbela's restaurant and bars are mixed, and it is better to know that before you go. As of September 2026, Zomato lists "Marbela Bar & Restaurant" at 3.9 from 365 dining reviews, at about ₹2,200 for two without alcohol, and Swiggy Dineout shows 4.2 from 4,152 ratings, at ₹1,800 for two. Reviewers praise the beachfront setting and the wood-fired pizzas. Some criticise slow service and prices. Cocktails sit on top of those cost-for-two figures, so check prices on the menu when you sit down, and on a busy December evening order the second round before you need it.

Sunset drinks, then what?

Sunset on Morjim falls between about 6:01 PM in late November and 7:09 PM in July, based on timeanddate's figures for Panaji. The beach club plays sunset DJ sets and closes at 10 PM, and Meso serves until 11 PM. After that, Morjim goes quiet. Not drinking? The Meso Bar still works

The Meso Bar is as much a juice and coffee bar as a cocktail bar. It makes fresh juices, smoothies and protein shakes for a post-swim hour at the pool, and fresh coffee in the morning. Ask for a zero-proof drink with whatever fruit is in season. For something Goan and alcohol-free, look for sol kadi or kokum juice at local restaurants, both made to cool you down after a spicy lunch.
