Why base a pre-wedding shoot at one beachfront resort?

A single beachfront base gives a pre-wedding shoot more usable hours than a tour of locations. The classic Goa shoot tries to cover a fort, two beaches and a café in one day, and loses half the golden hour in traffic. Staying at one resort puts a room for outfit changes, a bathroom, shade and food within a few minutes of the sand. Morjim adds a quieter frame. The beach is long and relatively calm compared with Baga or Calangute, so wide shots are less likely to fill with strangers, though it is public and walkers do pass. The one location worth driving to is Chapora Fort, which faces Morjim across the estuary. Goa Tourism notes it is known as the Dil Chahta Hai fort after the 2001 film. When is the light best for a beach shoot in Goa?

The best light on Goa's coast comes in the hour before sunset, because the coast faces west and the sun goes down over the Arabian Sea.

According to timeanddate's 2026 figures for Panaji, sunset is about 6:01 PM from mid-November to early December, 6:15 PM on 1 January, 6:42 PM on 1 March and 7:02 PM on 1 June. Check the exact time for your date.

How do tides affect a shoot on Morjim?

Tides decide how much beach you have to work with. Goa's coast sees two high and two low tides on most days, and the times slip later by roughly 50 minutes a day, so a tide chart checked a week early will mislead you. Look again two or three days out. Low tide on Morjim exposes wide, wet sand that reflects the sky, which is what makes golden-hour frames glow. The water stays shallow for some distance near the shore, so walking-in-the-surf shots work close in. High tide narrows the beach and pushes the crew up the sand towards passing walkers. The best case is a low or falling tide during the hour before sunset. Keep everyone in the shallows, stay between the Drishti lifeguards' red-and-yellow flags, and never wade out for a shot, because conditions change with the tides and currents.

A one-day shoot schedule that works

Stay the previous night, because check-in is 2:00 PM and a sunrise session needs you already on site.

1. 5:30 AM: hair and make-up in the room.
2. Sunrise to 8:00 AM: beach session one, in soft light on a quiet beach.
3. 8:30 AM–3:30 PM: breakfast, rest and a re-style. Shoot verandah or interior looks around midday. Meso opens at 11:00 AM, and outside food is not allowed, so plan crew meals at the resort.
4. 4:00 PM: second look. Check the tide.
5. 60–90 minutes before sunset: the main beach session.
6. Sunset: silhouettes, then a table scene on the terrace if permitted.
7. Next day, 11:00 AM: check-out, unless late check-out is booked at extra cost.

Pack flowing fabrics such as chiffon, georgette or linen for the sand, and save heavy lehengas and sherwanis for shaded interiors.

Turtle season and monsoon shoots

Morjim is a protected Olive Ridley nesting beach with a Forest Department hatchery, and nesting runs mainly from late December to March. Keep away from fenced nests and the hatchery, skip flash, strobes and bright lights on the sand after dark, and follow forest staff instructions. The June–September monsoon changes the brief entirely. Red flags go up and the sea is closed, but garden greens, heavy skies and wet reflections make a moody set. Build in indoor setups and keep well back from the water. Read whether Goa is good in July and August before choosing those dates.

Permissions, drones and what to confirm first

Get permission in writing before the photographer books travel. As of September 2026, Marbela publishes no shoot fee, permission process or drone policy, and none appears on the wedding-venue listings for the resort either.
