When should you hold a destination wedding in Goa?

Pick a date between late November and early May if any function will be outdoors by the sea. The June–September monsoon brings heavy rain, red flags on every beach and a sea closed for swimming, so a lawn ceremony beside Morjim is off the table then. November to February gives the most reliable dry weather and the highest rates, with Christmas and New Year the tightest weeks for rooms, flights and decorators. March to May is hotter and quieter, so run the main functions in the evening. Two Morjim dates matter as well. Olive Ridley turtles nest on the beach mainly from late December to March, which limits lights and noise on the sand, and Marbela does not permit check-out on 31 December.

How do wedding guests get from the airport to Morjim?

Most guests should fly into Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX), about 28 km and typically 40–60 minutes by road from Marbela, depending on traffic. Dabolim (GOI) is about 55 km away and takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. The resort does not run an airport shuttle, so transfers are yours to organise. A sedan from Mopa typically costs approx. ₹1,000–1,500.

Timing trips people up more than distance. Picture an aunt and uncle landing at Mopa at 10:30 AM. They reach Morjim around 11:45, and standard check-in is 2:00 PM. Unless their room was booked from the previous night, which is the only way to guarantee early check-in, they wait about two hours. Mapping a three-day wedding onto Marbela's spaces

Each function in a three-day Indian wedding suits a different space, and Marbela has four that can be booked privately.

Venue listings disagree on size, so read them as a starting point. As of September 2026, WedMeGood lists the "Beach Lounge" at 700 seated and 1,000 floating, with in-house catering, decorators from the resort's panel and a bridal room. BookEventz, last updated 30 March 2025, gives 500 theatre-style and 600 floating, and WeddingZ lists the open area at 350 seated. Room blocks and the no-refund rule

Marbela's room bookings are non-refundable. A cancellation or no-show is charged at 100% of the stay, and that changes how you should hold rooms for wedding guests. Confirm the date, the spaces and your core headcount before anyone pays. Then decide who books. Couples paying for everyone should book only confirmed names. Couples asking guests to pay should share the Marbela booking engine, where rates change daily, with a clear deadline.

Most Marbela rooms face the gardens, a short walk from the sea, so don't promise sea-view rooms to anyone without asking reservations which rooms have them. The couple usually suits a Spa Villa Room, with its private outdoor spa area and open-air shower. Parents travelling with grown children fit a Family Room, which takes up to four adults. Neither is sold on the booking engine, so ask reservations to hold them. Under the resort's published policy, children up to 6 stay free without an extra bed, and anyone over 12 is charged as an adult: ₹2,360 a night with an extra mattress. Who should not choose Morjim for their wedding?

Morjim suits couples who want the celebration to stay at the venue, and it is a poor fit for three kinds of wedding. The first is a guest list that expects nights out in Baga or Calangute. The second is a wedding that needs a banquet hall with a projector and staging for presentations. Marbela has no confirmed AV setup, so any screen or sound beyond music has to be agreed in writing. The third is a family planning to bring its own liquor or caterer. Outside food, beverages and liquor are not allowed at Marbela, and the kitchen and bar are in-house. Everyone else gets a long, relatively quiet beach, sunsets over the Arabian Sea and every function within walking distance of the rooms.

A 12-month planning timeline

Start about a year ahead for a peak-season date and around eight months ahead for March to May.

1. 12 months out: pick two date options and a guest range, then call the events team to check the lawn and terrace.
2. 9 months: confirm spaces, ask for an itemised quote and agree who pays for rooms.
3. 6 months: send save-the-dates with Mopa flight advice and a room-booking deadline.
4. 4 months: fix décor through the resort's panel, plus music, photographer and a transfer plan.
5. 6 weeks: lock the headcount, menus and function schedule. Send guests a one-page itinerary.
6. Wedding week: walk each space at the hour it will be used, including the lawn at sunset.
