What should luxury mean at a Goa beach resort?

Luxury at a Goa beach resort should mean fewer compromises during the hours you actually spend there. Walk out of your room and onto the sand, not across a road. Have somewhere private outdoors, because the best Goa weather is outside. Eat well without a taxi, which matters most in the monsoon, when many shacks close. Swim in a pool when red flags shut the sea. Sleep in quiet. None of that shows up in a star label, and Goa's labels aren't applied consistently anyway. Does luxury feel different in North and South Goa?

Yes, and the difference is mostly about what lies outside the gate. South Goa's beaches are generally quieter and more spread out, and they are the easier choice when you fly into Dabolim; the trade is fewer restaurants, bars and markets within easy reach. The Candolim to Baga belt in North Goa has all of those, and the crowds that come with them. The northern beaches in Pernem, Morjim, Ashwem and Mandrem, sit in between.
