The rooms look onto the resort's gardens. Inside, the amenity list is longer than on some other categories: complimentary Wi-Fi, an in-room minibar, a tea and coffee maker, an electronic safe, multi-channel satellite TV, a hair dryer and an ironing board. That is the whole factual picture from the resort. We don't publish a room size, and we won't describe the spa area as a jacuzzi, a hot tub or a pool, because it isn't marketed as any of those. The Luxury Cottage is set among the gardens steps from the Arabian Sea with a private verandah, so it suits people who are in and out of the water all day and want the sand close. What you give up with the Spa Villa is nothing about location, since both are a short walk from Morjim Beach, but you do trade a verandah-and-sea-air feel for a more enclosed, bathroom-centred room. Neither room is sold as sea-facing.

A Spa Villa day at Morjim, hour by hour

The resort's timings shape a good day more than any itinerary. Morjim is at its emptiest early, so walk the beach before the heat, and in turtle season (roughly November to March) keep well back from the Forest Department's fenced hatchery. Meso opens at 11 AM for a long lunch; the Moroccan fish kebab (₹720) and grilled calamari and prawns with brown rice (₹850) are on the menu. The afternoon is for the villa and its outdoor spa area, or a sunbed at the beach club, which plays house music until 10 PM. Shower outside before the sun drops, roughly between 6:00 PM and 7:10 PM depending on the month, then eat at Meso facing the sea. Before you book a Spa Villa

Four rules affect a Spa Villa stay more than the room itself.

• Check-in is 2 PM and check-out 11 AM. For a morning Mopa landing, book the night before to guarantee the room.
• Children up to 6 stay free without an extra bed; above 12 they're charged as adults at ₹2,360 a night with an extra mattress.
• Outside food, drinks and liquor aren't allowed. The minibar, Island Bar and Meso Bar cover it.
• Pets are welcome at Marbela. Mention yours when booking and confirm it suits this room type.
