The Spa Villa at Marbela: an outdoor bathroom in a Morjim garden

A spa villa in Goa can mean anything from a room with a bathtub to a pool villa. At Marbela Beach Resort in Morjim, the Spa Villa Room has a private outdoor spa area and an open-air shower, set in the gardens a short walk from the beach. It has no private pool and no jacuzzi, and the view is of garden, not sea.

What does a Spa Villa Room at Marbela actually have?

The Spa Villa is Marbela's newest and most indulgent room type, and its point is the bathroom that lives outdoors. Each one has a private outdoor spa area and an open-air shower, so washing off the salt after a beach afternoon happens under the sky rather than behind tiles. The rooms look onto the resort's gardens. Inside, the amenity list is longer than on some other categories: complimentary Wi-Fi, an in-room minibar, a tea and coffee maker, an electronic safe, multi-channel satellite TV, a hair dryer and an ironing board. That is the whole factual picture from the resort. We don't publish a room size, and we won't describe the spa area as a jacuzzi, a hot tub or a pool, because it isn't marketed as any of those. People who book expecting a plunge pool are the ones who end up disappointed, so if a water feature matters to you, ask reservations to describe the spa area of the villa you'll get before you pay.

Should you pick the Spa Villa or a Luxury Cottage?

Pick the Spa Villa for time spent in the room, and the Luxury Cottage for time spent on the beach. This is the choice most couples at Marbela end up weighing, and the two rooms reward different habits. The Spa Villa's private outdoor spa area and open-air shower make a slow morning or a long afternoon in the room feel like part of the holiday, which suits honeymoons, anniversaries and anyone planning treatments at Marbela Spa. The Luxury Cottage is set among the gardens steps from the Arabian Sea with a private verandah, so it suits people who are in and out of the water all day and want the sand close. What you give up with the Spa Villa is nothing about location, since both are a short walk from Morjim Beach, but you do trade a verandah-and-sea-air feel for a more enclosed, bathroom-centred room. Neither room is sold as sea-facing.

A Spa Villa day at Morjim, hour by hour

The resort's timings shape a good day more than any itinerary. Morjim is at its emptiest early, so walk the beach before the heat, and in turtle season (roughly November to March) keep well back from the Forest Department's fenced hatchery. Meso opens at 11 AM for a long lunch; the Moroccan fish kebab (₹720) and grilled calamari and prawns with brown rice (₹850) are on the menu. The afternoon is for the villa and its outdoor spa area, or a sunbed at the beach club, which plays house music until 10 PM. Shower outside before the sun drops, roughly between 6:00 PM and 7:10 PM depending on the month, then eat at Meso facing the sea. Marbela Spa runs bespoke treatments; confirm the menu and couples options in advance, and see our couples spa guide.
