When should a Goa honeymoon start after the wedding?

As soon after the wedding as your budget allows, but not blindly. India's wedding season overlaps with Goa's peak from November to February, when the weather is dry and pleasant and rooms are at their busiest and dearest. A wedding in mid-December puts the honeymoon straight into Christmas and New Year, the hardest week of the year to book. At Marbela Beach Resort, check-out on 31 December isn't permitted, so a honeymoon over New Year has to include that night. Couples who can wait a few weeks gain a lot. Late January and February are still dry, the beach is calmer after the holiday rush, and Olive Ridley turtles are at their nesting peak on Morjim between January and March. March is hotter and quieter again. The monsoon from June to September is green and cheaper, but the sea is closed for swimming. Whenever you go, book flights before the room, because the room is non-refundable.

A five-day Morjim honeymoon with real timings

Five days is enough to rest first and explore second, and the plan below assumes a December or January trip, when sunset comes at roughly 6 PM.

1. Day 1. Land at Mopa at 11 AM and reach Morjim by about 12:30. Lunch at Meso while the room is readied for the 2 PM check-in, then be at the beach club for the sunset DJ set.
2. Day 2. Walk the shore to Ashwem (2–3 km) before the club opens at 11 AM. Spend the afternoon in a cabana with pool dips and a seasonal-fruit cocktail from the Island Bar.
3. Day 3. Cross the Siolim bridge to Chapora Fort, the ruin from Dil Chahta Hai, 13–15 km away, and look back across the estuary at Morjim. Spa in the afternoon; confirm couples treatments first.
4. Day 4. A Wednesday in season means Anjuna Flea Market, 35–45 minutes away. On a Friday, Mapusa market is at its busiest.
5. Day 5. Late breakfast, check-out at 11 AM, and a last seafood lunch before the airport.

Most honeymoon hiccups are paperwork and timing, not the resort.

• Names on ID. Photo ID is checked at check-in, so book in the names your documents show today.
• Wedding-gift bottles stay home. Outside liquor isn't allowed; the Island Bar and Meso Bar have signature cocktails and classics.
• Music until 10 PM. The beach club plays house music until then. Ask for a quieter room if you want early nights.
• Turtle nights. From late December to March, keep torches off on the sand and stay clear of fenced nests.
