A beach hut stay in Goa usually means a simple seasonal room a few steps from the sand, put up after the monsoon and taken down before the next. Marbela in Morjim began with tents, but huts and tents aren't sold on its booking engine today, so the bookable choice there is a garden cottage.

What is a beach hut in Goa, really?
A Goa beach hut is a small, usually single-room structure built close to the sand, often from timber, bamboo or prefabricated panels, and run for the dry season. Many open once the monsoon has passed and come down before the next one. That seasonal life explains most of what you get. Walls are thin, so you hear the sea, and you also hear the neighbours. Some huts have air-conditioning and a proper bathroom; plenty have a fan and a basic shower. Sand gets everywhere. Power cuts happen. On the good side, a hut puts you as close to the water as Goa allows, and waking to the sound of waves is the reason people book one. The word covers everything from a backpacker's plank room to a polished tented cottage, so ignore the label and read the room description line by line before paying.
How does a beach hut compare with a cottage or a hotel room?
A hut wins on closeness to the sea, a cottage on comfort and privacy, and a hotel room on predictability.

Did Marbela begin as a tent resort on Morjim Beach?
Yes. Marbela Beach Resort started with tents on the Rajebhosale family's beachfront land at Morjim around 2007. According to a 2012 Navhind Times feature, founders Jaydeep and Sheetal Rajebhosale ran it with tepee tents that Jaydeep custom-built. By 2016 the mix had grown: a wedding-venue roundup published in June that year counted six Spanish villas, 14 luxury tents and three master tents, taking up to 60 guests. Traces of that era are still online. The booking engine's welcome text mentions a white backdrop of shimmering tents and thatched roofs, and the homepage still offers a choice of Spa Villas, Suites and Beach Huts. Some travel sites continue to list tent rooms as well. Those words belong to the tent years. As of September 2026, the booking engine sells five room types, the Premium Cottage, Beach Suite, Villa Room, Marbela Chalet and Luxury Cottage, and none of them is a hut or a tent.
Can you book a beach hut at Marbela today?
Not online, and it's better to say so before you plan around one. Huts and tents aren't among the rooms on Marbela's booking engine, so call or WhatsApp reservations on +91 91588 81185 before assuming one exists for your dates. Be wary of any third-party site still selling a "luxury tent" at the resort; confirm it with the resort before paying. For the feel of a hut with solid walls, the Luxury Cottage is the closest thing you can book. It sits among gardens a few steps from the Arabian Sea, has a private verandah, and takes up to four guests with one extra bed on the booking engine. EaseMyTrip lists it at about 425 sq ft with a garden view. The Premium Cottage is a garden-view double for two guests only, with no extra bed or children. Neither cottage is sold as sea-facing. Questions that save you a bad night in a hut
Send these to any hut or tent operator before you pay.
- Is there air-conditioning, or a fan only?
- Is the bathroom attached and private, with hot water?
- Does the door lock, and is there a safe for passports and phones?
- Is there power backup?
- How close is the nearest shack, bar or party venue, and when does its music stop?
- Is the hut open on my dates, or does it close before the monsoon?
- Is the listing current? Ask for a photo taken this season.
Sleeping close to Morjim Beach in turtle season
Olive Ridley turtles nest at Morjim mainly from late December to March, and anyone sleeping by the sand is part of that story. The first nests of the last two seasons were found on 25 December 2024 and 26 December 2025. The Forest Department moves the eggs to a fenced hatchery, where they incubate for about 45–52 days. The Goan reported that 152 turtles laid more than 15,500 eggs at Morjim in the 2024–25 season. Keep torches off or pointed down after dark, don't play music on the beach, and stay back from fenced areas. Drinking alcohol on Goa's beaches is also banned, with fines of ₹2,000 for individuals and ₹10,000 for groups, so the sundowner belongs on a verandah or at a licensed bar. Beach huts in the monsoon
Mostly, no. The India Meteorological Department's normal monsoon onset for Panaji is 7 June, and red flags stay up at patrolled beaches through June to September, meaning no swimming. Many shacks and hut camps shut completely. Resorts with permanent buildings stay open and rates fall, which makes a garden cottage the practical monsoon choice. October is the changeover month, when shacks start to reopen.

Do beach huts in Goa have AC?
Some do and many don't. Ask the operator whether the hut has air-conditioning or only a fan, and whether power backup keeps it running during cuts.
Does Marbela still have tents or beach huts?
Not on its booking engine. Tents were part of the resort from about 2007, and a 2016 account listed 14 luxury tents and three master tents, but the rooms sold online today are cottages, rooms and suites.
Is a beach hut cheaper than a resort room in Goa?
Often, but not always. Well-finished huts in peak season can cost as much as a resort room, so compare what's included, such as AC, a private bathroom and breakfast.
Is it safe to stay in a beach hut in Goa?
Generally yes, when the door locks and valuables go in a safe. India's emergency number is 112, and Drishti lifeguards patrol Goa's main beaches.
What is the best month for a beach hut stay?
November to February is dry and pleasant, with most huts open. Late December is the busiest and most expensive stretch, so early December or February is calmer.
